Some years ago I also had a small problem with the Kardon balls splitting. I found out that Roco had a bad batch of Kardon balls produced by a sub contractor. This however only effective a small number of locomotives. The problem was resolved years ago. Mr Mengas you don't need to cast your own parts, I received my replacement metal kardon balls from Roman and Co in Chicago free of charge.
